About Eastern Coatings
Eastern Coatings is a locally owned company that has been serving HRM and beyond from its central Bedford location since 2010.
At Eastern Coatings we have ONE GOAL: Make our clients happy by providing the highest quality painting services, combined with the best overall experience.
We take great pride in our trade and understand you are proud of your home. Our team will give it the respect it deserves.
Ask this question when you first contact the company so you know what to expect from the get-go. Ask what the estimate includes. So that you can make an even comparison of all the bids you receive, ask each company to include the following in their estimate:
- Prep work
- Anticipated amount of paint and primer
- Any extra supplies
In-home estimates are better than estimates given out over the phone. An in-home estimate allows the estimator to capture more detail about the project. It also helps the estimator predict any areas that may require extra work and extra costs.
Questions to consider for getting an accurate estimate:
- What parts of the house do you want painted? Just one wall, or every single room?
- Do you want your crown molding and baseboards painted, too?
- Do you want any wallpaper or ceiling texture removed?
- Is there any damaged wood in these areas that would need carpentry work before the painting starts?
- Do you require a colour consultation or the services of an interior designer?
Ask for the company's insurance information. A contractor with general liability insurance is a must. This ensures that you will not be held responsible for accidents on your property.
You can also ask to see the company's business license.
Eastern Coatings employs experienced tradesmen that will ensure your project is delivered on-time and on-budget.
We will provide the contact details for the main point of contact for your project.
Eastern Coatings can provide a list of references from home owners in your area.

It is important to choose the highest-quality paint you can afford. Going with a high-quality brand will ensure that you don't have to repaint in a year or two.
We will be happy to discuss paint finish types. Some finishes are better suited than others to the different rooms in your house. We can guide you on what works best in your kitchen versus your master bedroom, for example.
Exterior Painting
The lowest temperature we recommend is 5°C.
It is recommended to wait 48 hours before painting after rain.
Yes you can. There is a specific product for vinyl siding that works amazingly well.
Yes we do all exterior painting.
Over time, cheaper products can actually become more expensive because poor colour retention, a shorter lifespan, and thin coverage are all side effects of low-quality ingredients. This means that you will need to paint more often, use more product and it won't look as good.
Investing in quality paint pays undeniable returns over time, especially if you are looking for ways to make your painting project as budget-friendly as possible, using bargain-brand paint can be very, very tempting.
There are a huge number of factors at play that impact the answer to this question. The short version is that quality paint carefully applied can last 7-10 years, depending on environmental conditions.
How can you get the longest possible life out of your exterior paint? Be sure to click over to an article we wrote on this specific topic for a longer answer, but here is the short version:
- Invest in excellent paint products
- Be mindful of the kind of paint you're using (stay consistent with either oil or latex, or else switch carefully)
- Choose a trustworthy painting company
- Never skimp on surface preparation
While your paint may stand up well for 7 years, we would suggest more frequent touch-ups, cleaning, and maintenance. This will not only keep your surfaces looking their best, but also gives your paint a shot at a long and healthy life.
You may be the kind of homeowner who likes to roll up their sleeves and get it done, but here are a few questions to consider:
- How intricate or complex is your home? – Angles, lines, architectural features, and other unique considerations can be tough to navigate and thoroughly coat without the right tools and experience.
- How tall is your home? – It may not look bad from the ground, but working from a ladder can be another story. It's important to be confident that you can work safely and reach every inch of your house.
- Repairs – Exterior painting involves far more than just paint. Are you able to confidently make repairs and properly prepare the surfaces?
- Do you have the equipment and materials? – Exterior painting often involves buckets, brushes, sprayers, drop cloths, caulk, ladders, primer, lifts, rags, tape, and more.
- Do you have the right product knowledge? – Painting, when done well, is as much science as elbow grease. Knowing the way products interact with each other and your home's surfaces is an essential part of making sure your paint lasts longer than a summer or two.
Another important question: what is your time worth? Hiring a professional can be a fast, efficient way to get the job done well, leaving you available for work, family, other projects, and more.
If you do decide to hire a pro, remember that not all painting companies are created equal.
Here is a quick breakdown of what you should look for:
- Are they licensed and insured?
- Can you find examples of their work online?
- What are their reviews and feedback?
- Ask them what surface preparation they recommend for your exterior painting project, and make sure it's included in your estimate.
You also should simply get a good feeling when interacting with your potential painter. Are they looking out for you and being communicative/engaging? Are they offering solutions?
Your estimate should be thorough, clear, and include an itemized synopsis of exactly what will be done and how much it costs. If yours is ambiguous or you sense that your painter is being evasive, it is definitely time to move on.
Look for:
- Labour
- Materials
- Incidentals
- Products being used
Interior Painting
If you call us at the beginning of the month we can paint your house the same month
- Repair any cracks or holes
- The area is then sanded to a smooth finish and primed to ensure the area repaired blends in with the rest of surface
- Caulk where required
- Drape plastic of furniture and anything else that needs to be protected
- Use drop cloths for floor protection
Remove all artwork and window dressing from the walls and move furniture to the middle of the rooms. We have plastic and drop cloths to protect furniture and floors.
No. First, we review colours and confirm where they go. We then prep the walls ceilings and trim for paint. Prep work is key to a quality paint project.
The process is similar to painting a house. However, a house may have higher areas that can be harder to access.
Move your furniture. Our painters require the furniture to be moved into the middle of the room so walls can easily be accessed.
Remove any artwork and window dressings. If the artwork is being returned to its original position leave the nail as-is, otherwise please remove the nail and we will repair the hole.
Take care of the kids and pets.

Cabinet Refinishing
Cabinet refinishing is when you refinish your current wood cabinets with paint or stain. First, we will strip, sand and carefully prepare the surfaces of your doors, drawer fronts, and panels. Once clean, we will apply new coats of paint or stain to give the cabinets a new look.
Refinishing is painting existing kitchen as-is. Refacing is making new doors for the existing cabinet boxes.
Cabinet refinishing works best with wood cabinets. Thermofoil cabinets or particleboard doors aren't good candidates for cabinet refinishing. If your cabinet boxes have heavy damage, they will need repairs before the work begins. Cabinet doors that are cracked and broken are also not good candidates for cabinet refinishing.
Refinishing cabinets takes about two weeks to complete for most kitchens. Compared to a traditional cabinet replacement, refinishing is a fraction of the cost. Your home life will experience minimal disruption. You can still use your stovetop, countertops and the inside of your cabinets while the job is underway.
It depends. Irreparably damaged cabinets won't benefit from cabinet painting. However, we can rejuvenate doors with water and heat damage. Even doors with significant scratches, dings, and blemishes can be made new again. If you're not sure, call us to inspect your cabinets. We can suggest repairs and educate you on the cabinet refinishing process.
Yes, it is much less expensive and far less intrusive to refinish your existing cabinets.
Professionally refinished cabinets are extremely durable. We warranty our projects against paint failure.
Cabinet refinishing costs about 70% less than a complete cabinet replacement. We can give you an accurate and detailed estimate for your specific kitchen.

Epoxy Floors
Epoxy flooring is a combination of hardeners and resins that, when mixed together, create a chemical reaction causing it to harden into a rigid material with very strong bonds. That makes it durable and resistant to some of the most common issues you see with concrete, such as cracks, water damage, stains, and more.
Epoxy flooring is a smooth and seamless surface that is ideal for covering concrete. Because it's a non-porous surface, it doesn't stain, and it is extremely resistant to damage and very easy to clean with just mild soap and water. It's also ideal for rooms or areas that are going to have high traffic, and won't degrade over time like concrete can. Finally, it doesn't crack so you don't have to deal with that unsightly issue like you would with bare or treated concrete flooring.
There are some situations when it would not work or would not be beneficial to get epoxy flooring. For example, it won't adhere properly to a floor system that is damp or dirty. If you have it installed by someone who is not a professional, trapped moisture can cause damage that requires a repair. There is also a strong smell during application, but it will go away. Most of these issues can be easily avoided by hiring a professional to install it.
Some of the most common include:
- Garages
- Restaurant kitchens
- Airports
- Gymnasiums or sports facilities
- Storage facilities
- Warehouses
There are also more decorative epoxy floor coatings that are popular in:
- Locker rooms
- Laundromats or other businesses
- Showrooms
- Medical facilities and clinics
- Kitchens
- Office buildings
The exact installation time will vary based on the size of the area where you are getting epoxy floor coating, but in general it takes anywhere from two to three days for an average-size garage. It's important to note that nobody can come in contact with the flooring (walking, driving, etc.) while it hardens for at least 24 to 48 hours, so make sure you're prepared to seal off the area completely.
We recommend 24 hours before walking and 3 days before driving on new epoxy floors.
It is possible to epoxy floors during winter but we prefer the warmer months and the garage must be emptied beforehand. The fall, spring and summer make this more convenient.
No you do not. Eastern Coatings uses industrial-grade epoxy/clearcoat that will last many years and handles dirt, water and salt from your car.
This depends on the extent of the damage. If it's just some stains and minor cracks, we can repair those quickly before installing the floor, but if there are significant cracks or water damage, you may need to repair that before applying the epoxy.
